McVities is part of the United Biscuits food conglomerate. It mainly makes cakes and biscuits.

The brand has recently discontinued the use of hydrogenated vegetable fats across a large part of its product range. This is reported on in the Daily Mail article Digestives have 'killer fat' removed (3 July 2004).

Among the products that no longer contain hydrogenated fat are its Hob-Nob, Rich Tea and digestive biscuits (including chocolate-coated versions).

The message is obviously getting through! This move will add to the pressure on other companies to do the same.
